Quick answer: Gouté Domnik, “Taste of Dominica”, is a week-long food festival built on local ingredients and Creole cooking. The 2026 edition ran from July 19 to 26 with a Restaurant Week of prix fixe menus, a One Pot Competition and a farmers’ marketplace. Watch for the 2027 dates.
Restaurant Week
Participating restaurants serve specially created set menus at fixed prices. In 2026 the tiers, in Eastern Caribbean dollars, were Island Bite (EC$60), Creole Delight (EC$120), Taste of Nature (EC$200) and an Eat Local option under EC$60. More than twenty restaurants took part, from hotel dining rooms such as Calabash at Jungle Bay, LeatherBack at Rosalie Bay, Palisades at the Fort Young Hotel and Bwa Denn at Secret Bay to independents like The Pallet.
The One Pot Competition
Chefs, community groups and home cooks compete with one-pot dishes that show off traditional Dominican cooking and local produce. It is as much a party as a contest, and visitors are encouraged to taste and talk to the cooks.
The farmers’ marketplace
Growers and producers bring fresh fruit, ground provisions, spices and local products, a good chance to stock up and meet the people behind the island’s food.
Why it matters
The festival’s aim, as Discover Dominica puts it, is “from farm to table, sea to mountain”: getting residents and visitors into local restaurants and cooking with what the island grows.
Eat local any time
You don’t need festival week to eat well. Browse our places to eat for Creole kitchens, rum shops and seafood spots across the island.
